We often use running jokes or catchphrases on the show, and if you've come in late or not listened to the extensive back catalogue, it's easy to get confused over what the hell is going on.  Well, fret no more, sausage.  Here's the full story:

AMERICAN (SOMETHING), STAY AWAY FROM MEE-HEE

A reference to the first line of the song "American Woman" by The Guess Who.  This can be applied to anything that starts with 'American'.

BEING INTERRUPTED BY JONI MITCHELL SINGING 'BIG YELLOW TAXI'

Back in the halcyon days of Summer oh-ten, Old Spike gave Paul a copy of a cassette of the Welsh author Dylan Thomas reading some self-written poetry in his infamous Welsh baritone voice.  But somehow, Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" managed to get taped over a section, about three quarters of the way in.  Weird, right?  Nobody knows how (or why) this happened, but it started one of the longest-running memes in the show's history.

I KNOW, RIGHT?

One of P&S's least favourite hipster phrases.  The burning hatred for it arose during an episode of "The Paul And Spike Show" that dealt with people's most annoying verbal foibles.
